Planning factor / 01Entrance and customer-flow views
Assess approach direction, glazing, daylight contrast, door swing and the distance from the camera to the activity. A wide overview can show movement through an entry but may not resolve the same detail as a purpose-positioned view. Confirm the intended evidentiary detail before choosing placement.
Planning factor / 02Checkout and service counters
Map each register, counter, queue and obstruction such as displays or seasonal fixtures. A view of the whole checkout area and a view intended to clarify a transaction are different planning tasks. Positioning must account for lighting, staff workflow and applicable privacy expectations.
Planning factor / 03Stockroom and receiving
Consider delivery doors, receiving tables, high-value storage and staff circulation. Back-of-house routes change with shelving and delivery patterns; assess access to power and network, cable protection and whether the required view remains clear after the space is stocked.
Planning factor / 04Access, retention and exports
Decide who may view live images, retrieve recorded clips and authorize exports. Retention depends on camera settings, activity, recording schedule, compression and usable recorder storage; it cannot be guaranteed from camera count alone. Establish a practical export process and protect credentials.
